General Background Information:
Peter Johnston’s litigation experience includes the defense of a variety of general negligence, medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, and employment cases in both state and federal courts. Highlights of Peter’s work in these areas include the following:
- Obtaining a defense verdict from the jury in a wrongful death medical malpractice case in which the final demand was in excess of seven figures.
- Obtaining a defense verdict from the jury in a motor vehicle accident case in which the final demand was in excess of $500,000.
- Obtaining summary judgment from the court in a premises liability wrongful death claim.
Peter also provides general counsel services to an area health system and has assisted hospitals and other clients with business transactions and general corporate matters.
Peter has been BV®-rated by Martindale Hubbell since 2005. In 2003, he received the Kansas Bar Association’s Outstanding Young Lawyer Award. He is currently a member of the Saline-Ottawa County Bench-Bar Committee and an officer with the KBA’s Litigation Section.
Peter has been a speaker at seminars for lawyers, physicians, risk managers, and the public on topics ranging from risk management to trust and asset protection. Most recently, he addressed the Kansas Association of Risk & Quality Management at the group’s Fall 2010 meeting and the Kansas Association of Healthcare Volunteer Resource Professionals at the group’s Summer 2011 meeting.
